Toyota, the Japanese automaker, has had a lot of bad press recently. Some of its models have been diagnosed with a “sticky throttle,” which means taking your foot off the gas pedal doesn’t necessarily reduce your speed.
The company has recalled a huge number of cars and from an astrological point of view I’m very interested in what’s going on.
The Toyota Motor Corporation was born, as an independent entity, on August 28, 1937, which means that it is a Virgo organization.
Having a Virgo zodiac sign is probably helpful if you are a manufacturing company. Virgos consider details important and like to get things right. Quality control will be second nature and the products will have a reputation for reliability.
So when the company realized the flaws in their cars and had to embark on a massive recall, it must have been a real shock to their Virgoan system, and I’m sure a period of intense self-analysis begin.
When we take a closer look at Toyota’s horoscope, we see a really good chart, so it only makes sense that the company has done so well over the years.
On August 28, 1937 the Moon was in Taurus, a sign where it is very strong – to use the jargon, the Moon is “exalted” in Taurus. In addition, this applies to the favorable aspects with Venus in Cancer and Mercury in Virgo.
Mercury, by the way, is the planet of communication, and its dominance of Virgo gives it real strength. The company is able to get its message across loud and clear, and because of the Moon-Venus aspect, it knows how to put its target audience at ease.
However, in astrology there is no such thing as a perfect horoscope. At the time of Toyota’s incorporation, Saturn was in Aries, and according to traditional astrology, this is one of the worst signs for Saturn.
Saturn in Aries is often about being frustrated and not achieving what you want. It could also, literally, describe the sticky accelerator. Saturn represents difficulty and restriction, while Aries is a strong sign who sometimes likes to go as fast as possible.
This Saturn makes Mercury appear stressful at 180 degrees, suggesting times of discouragement. For example, in 1949 and 1950, when the Japanese economy was struggling, the company was in danger of going bankrupt.
In 2009 and 2010, Saturn in the sky goes through the end of Virgo and the beginning of Libra. In Virgo, he makes a conjunction with Toyota’s Mercury, in Libra, he makes an aspect of 180 degrees opposition to his own position. Indeed, in 1937 Saturn was at the start of Aries, in 2010 at the start of Libra, and the signs Aries and Libra are opposite to each other.
Things are made worse by Pluto. At the moment, Pluto is at the start of Capricorn, making a 90-degree aspect of Toyota’s Saturn. Pluto is an intense but transformational influence, which can often be difficult to deal with.
While all of this is happening, the planet Uranus is passing through the last degrees of Pisces, in preparation for entering Aries. In other words, it’s another planet that triggers Toyota’s Mercury and Saturn.
This astrological trigger will continue for a while – in theory until 2012. So I wouldn’t be surprised if the next few years bring big changes to the company, which require it to completely overhaul its organizational and managerial structure.
However, as I explained before, Toyota has a solid horoscope and I have no doubts that the current crisis will not cause any lasting problems for the company.
